I had the opportunity to try out the Tough Coat finish from Country Chic Paint. My project for this review started out as a plain looking wood table. It had cute legs and it was in pretty good shape.

First I taped off stripes onto my table top with painters tape. I didn’t want the entire table covered in paint and I thought that the pretty blue stripes would contrast nicely with the wood.

I used Elegance from Country Chic Paint. What a lovely colour! The paint goes on so well too, I like using it. I saw that the paint bled when I removed the painters tape (my fault) but I was able to clean it up easily, I just waited for about an hour for the paint to dry and then gently wiped off where I didn’t want the paint.

After two coats of Elegance I allowed my table top and legs to dry for a couple of days. Next I sanded it with my palm sander over the entire table top, using a fine grit sandpaper.

After wiping any dust and debris off my table I was ready to apply the Tough Coat. The instructions said to use a foam brush to apply but I didn’t have any on hand so I tried it with  regular paint brush. The Tough Coat went on so well, I was impressed!

The Tough Coat gave my table just a slight satin sheen did not discolour the paint at all. It also worked great over the plain wood.

Tough Coat is fully cured after one week and it will protect my table from scratches, making it resistant to household chemicals and water too. What more could you want?
