Heather from Inspire me Heather gave this simple bookshelf a pop of colour and fun with Devotion!

I had a bookshelf that was looking just a little blah. It had a wood look which is great for some spaces, just didn’t do anything for my room. I thought Country Chic Paint “Devotion” would make it pop!

Here is the “before”. Not too exciting is it? It needed some contrast and colour!

I picked Country Chic Paint “Devotion” which is a gorgeous red! It goes on so well too, it’s VOC free and practically odourless!

I didn’t prime or prep my bookshelf at all, other than wiping it down with a slightly soapy cloth. I rolled my paint on with my trusty old foam roller and used a paintbrush in the corners. Using a foam roller gives it a nice smooth coating and it’s great if you don’t want visible brush marks.

I applied two coats of the Devotion over a few days and allowed it to cure. I didn’t scuff or distress my bookshelf, I’m allowing it to age on it’s own with regular use.

How do you like it? Now it pops! I think it looks great in my family room too.

I could have painted it with another colour before the Devotion and then distressed to show the under colour though or painted another coat of Devotion over but I liked the visible wood grain so I stopped at two coats. I think it looks a bit like barn wood.
