This fun numbered table was created by Michele from Shelstring with Liquorice and Vanilla Frosting. Come find out how she did it!

I purchased this table years ago at a consignment shop.

It was when I finally started buying real quality furniture, not cheap particle board. I loved the stencil, finished look of it, but it had gotten pretty tired over the years with all it’s love and abuse.
(I use that term loosely..eh-hem!).

I started by painting it in Vanilla Frosting on top and then started drawing my design. I hated it! That’s when I decided to paint the top Liquorice.
I LOVE these colors!!

At first I thought that with the table’s shape and all, it would be easy to decide on what kind of look to give it. After all, there are myriads of inspiration for a basic round side table out there all over Pinterest and blog land, right? Wrong. Nothing seemed to be going well in my mind upon application. Then one day, I realized that the ideas I had were far too organized for this apparently free spirited little table! I have been really liking the number look on many things I’ve created lately. As a consequence, I have collected all these cut out numbers in various sizes from other projects already.

So I decided to just scatter them around and stencil them where they were with very little thought, using Vanilla Frosting again.

Some of the paint came over the edges, which wasn’t a concern since I planned on roughing it up a little anyway.

I love, love, LOVE the way Liquorice sands! It turns a little dark greyish.

I sealed it off with some Tough Coat and…voila!

Complete satisfaction.
Now it sits in my retail space just hoping it won’t get sold. Silly, I know, but I love this piece and there is a bittersweet-ness that goes along with those you put so much thought into. Not selling would give me the excuse to bring it home and use it.

Don’t you think the roses from my back yard just “pop” on this little table?

Amazing how a little paint can add so much character, isn’t it?
