This incredible bookshelf transformation in Eggnog was done by Michele from Shelstring. Come see the impressive before and after photos right here!

This bookcase was in our home growing up. It has great sentimental value because my Grandfather made it for my Mother.

I remember reading childrens books that were stored in here. After I had children of my own and my Mother began downsizing, around ten years ago, she passed this piece down to me.

It was all white. I sanded the top down to bare wood and stained it.
But 10+ years is a long time for our family of 9 and it needed a refresh.
After repainting and adding new baseboards and chair rails in our family room recently, I decided it was time to give our little bookcase some character.

I was so excited to receieve Country Chic Paint’s fall color Peacoat. It is such a fun name and perfect for this piece!

First I painted it a coat of Lazy Linen. It’s got a gray undertone and is so pretty with the blue.

Then I painted the whole thing again in Peacoat.

While that was drying, I stained over the top. I didn’t sand it down this time.

I’m okay with a bit of distressing, especially down in the family room. I gave it a total of about 3 coats of stain.

After letting everything dry, I sanded over the Peacoat to let the Lazy Linen peak through.

I found the a set of six of the knobs at Home Goods, so I have a couple left over for another project. YAY!

I love the coastal charm the bookcase now has.

To be honest, while I was painting on the Peacoat, I kept thinking it was too dark and I was going to regret it. That’s one of the things I love about paint though, you can always change it if it doesn’t turn out the way you think it will, right?!

No definite commitment gives you courage to try.

But after I left the room and returned, I was so pleased with the impact it had on the ENTIRE room, that I couldn’t help but get excited!!

This piece is staying this color for sure!
