Cassie from Lovely Weeds is joining us for her very first Country Chic Paint blog post! Come find out how she refinished this beautiful farmhouse-style table with Simplicity and Tough Coat for the nursery in her new house.

When I first bought this sweet miniature farmhouse table a couple of years ago, it was not just cute… it was too cute. Ladybugs and butterflies and pink and yellow and glitter. There was so much going on, and though the art was done well and clearly with love, it was just too much for my home.
It was one of my first projects when I dove into furniture painting, and though I worked hard and did my best, it wasn’t a quality paint job. I didn’t use quality paint and I was a total rookie. It’s been in need of a re-do for a while!

Right now, this table is in my son’s room so I considered painting it a fun color like Hurricane to fit in with his theme. We are moving soon though, and I’m hoping to have a playroom for this table to live.

White is always a safe bet in my house, so I chose Country Chic Paint All-In-One Paint in Simplicity. The beautiful pure white went perfectly with the wood top.

I decided to finish off the Simplicity with Tough Coat, because… kids! Since this is strictly a kids table I thought I better be safe and make it tough.

My little boy earned some brownie points by helping me stage these pictures – he was not happy that he had to leave his puzzle unfinished. Good sport!

You can see how smoothly the paint goes on. Chalk and Clay paints tend to be “gloopy”, but CCP is so smooth and has great coverage despite without being too thick.

I left the table top and chair seats unpainted because the grain of the wood is so beautiful, but I did give them a couple layers of Tough Coat. I wanted to preserve the color, and the Tough Coat did a beautiful job of bringing out the color variations without an overwhelming, glossy finish.

I have to say, as much as I love the cute little table, the thing I was most excited about when working on this project was the fact that there is zero smell and zero fumes. I painted all three pieces on my kitchen table with my four year old and one year old running around. Being able to do that without worrying about my little ones breathing in chemicals is everything. Can’t do that with polyurethane!

I’ve got big plans for this little table! Lots of crafting messes in its future.

Cassie {Lovely Weeds}

Hey there, I’m Cassie. I’m a wife, mom, writer, and maker living in Arizona. My house became a home when I let go of the rules, embraced what I loved, quit wishing and started making. My blog, Lovely Weeds, is about taking those ugly, unwanted fill-in-the-blanks and loving them back to life. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, or as I like to say, one man’s weeds are this girl’s wildflowers!
