Dresser Makeover

Jamie from Style Your Nest used Vanilla Frosting, Chocolate Tart, and Tough Coat to give this dresser just the right look for her bedroom!

I am always so busy painting other pieces of furniture that I never get around to painting my own. I scored this dresser off Kijiji for a great price and it was perfect for our bedroom until I find “the perfect dresser”. For once my husband was thrilled I was taking on another painting project. He wasn’t a fan of the natural wood and I agreed with him. In the right room décor I think it works beautifully, but it just wasn’t quite the right fit for our bedroom.

This dresser is hand made with pine which means there are lots of knots in it. It’s important to know that you must paint a stain/primer blocker over it first before painting your colour, otherwise the knots will bleed through. Once that had dried after a few hours, I started painting with Country Chic All In One Décor Paint in Chocolate Tart and Vanilla Frosting. For durability (as I use my dresser top a lot), I applied two thin layers of Country Chic Tough Coat just to the top. The rest of the dresser I applied Country Chic Natural Wax.

To keep a little bit of masculinity for my husband and because our bed is darker, I decided to paint the drawers in the chocolate Tart and the rest of the dresser in Vanilla Frosting. I wanted to keep the lighter feeling to it as well. I just love the Vanilla Frosting as it’s a beautiful white without being too stark and bright. It is very warm and inviting colour for a bedroom.

You know it turned out well when even my husband is happy with it. I wish I didn’t wait so long before painting this dresser. Our bedroom makeover is slowly coming together.
