This sweet DIY chalkboard is the work of Julie from Salvage Sisters & Co. Check it out right here to learn more about how she gave it a new, shabby chic look with Cherry Blossom and Cheesecake!

Hello spring, the cherry blossoms have bloomed and I’m getting all excited for the warm(er) weather! I am seeing inspiration everywhere for light, bright, and airy spring paint colors and ideas. Today I’m here with part two of my dessert series using Cheesecake Country Chic Paint three ways! Today’s delight- Cherry Cheesecake.

I am going to transform this beautiful 1970’s canvas from drab and dreary to Cherry Blossom cheery!

(My apologies to the original artist, this was just out of decade season)

First, I removed the canvas and set it aside, I put a coat of Cherry Blossom on the entire frame. While that was drying I painted the canvas with black chalkboard paint, you will want to do a couple layers of this for good coverage.

Next I used the Beeswax Distressing Bar and rubbed all the higher ridges, edges, and corners. This will prevent the top color from adhering in those areas and leave the bottom color showing through.

After that I painted the entire frame with the rich and creamy Cheesecake. I let that dry for about an hour and then I went back to it and rubbed the frame with a warm damp cloth exposing the Cherry Blossom underneath. Let it dry completely and then apply the clear protective wax.

Stacy & Julie {Salvage Sisters & Co}

We are two sisters living in Nebraska and Colorado pursuing our dream of having a business together – painting, repurposing and salvaging furniture and decor. In 2014 after a few years in the south, Stacy moved back to Nebraska. With our distance apart being less excruciating we decided to jump on the opportunity to follow our passion for crafting and start doing festivals and shows. Thanks to all of our friends in the community our tent was bare by the end of each weekend! We quickly learned our dreams were becoming a reality and we needed a way to be more in touch on a daily basis and so, our online store was born.

As we continue to grow we strive for our business to embody all of the things that we hold nearest to our heart- family, community and home. The Salvage Sisters are all about spending time together with the people we love and there’s no better place to do that than home. We are inspired by comfortable, lived-in homes that are filled with a perfect balance of both old and new. We hope that our passion shines from the warmth of our hearts into your home.
