In the final edition of her dessert themed trio, Julie from Salvage Sisters & Co is serving up another delicious project in Hurricane and Cheesecake! Find out how she gave this beautifully detailed shelf depth and dimension right here in her post about it.

Hello again, Salvage Sisters & Co! Today I am sharing my third part of my “Cheesecake Dessert” series, Blueberry Cheesecake using Country Chic Paint in Hurricane and white washing over it with Cheesecake. I decided that I would paint this old worn-out tin shelf.

I’m starting-out first with a solid coat of Hurricane which is a beautiful deep smoky gray/blue. This paint is so user friendly and easy to work with I love that the whole family can jump-in on a project. Here my little Salvage Sis is applying our first coat.

After letting the Hurricane dry for a couple of hours I mixed my Cheesecake with a small amount of water to thin it out. Next I started slopping it on, there really is no technique to this part. The paint is thin and slightly runny so I just made sure I really got it into every crack and crevice. I work in small sections and go back and wipe off the white with a clean lint free cloth. This removes most of the top paint color leaving it mostly in the grooves. This method really is pretty on ornate pieces and shows off all the depth and dimension.

You can add more white or wipe more off depending on the desired finish you are going for. This is the fun part, play around and don’t be afraid, you can’t mess it up… if you think you have, just keep going! Once the top coat of paint has fully dried I then applied a coat of clear wax. The wax protects the paint and really makes the color deep and rich.

See the wax working it’s magic…

Stacy & Julie {Salvage Sisters & Co}

We are two sisters living in Nebraska and Colorado pursuing our dream of having a business together – painting, repurposing and salvaging furniture and decor. In 2014 after a few years in the south, Stacy moved back to Nebraska. With our distance apart being less excruciating we decided to jump on the opportunity to follow our passion for crafting and start doing festivals and shows. Thanks to all of our friends in the community our tent was bare by the end of each weekend! We quickly learned our dreams were becoming a reality and we needed a way to be more in touch on a daily basis and so, our online store was born.

As we continue to grow we strive for our business to embody all of the things that we hold nearest to our heart- family, community and home. The Salvage Sisters are all about spending time together with the people we love and there’s no better place to do that than home. We are inspired by comfortable, lived-in homes that are filled with a perfect balance of both old and new. We hope that our passion shines from the warmth of our hearts into your home.
