Hello! I’m Angie from The Painted Piano, and today I’m back to show you a sweet little dresser I painted for a friend who is expecting her first baby this summer.

I gave this old family dresser a new fresh look for her baby girl’s nursery with Cobblestone Gray. The tannins in the old stains wanted to peek through the paint, so I applied a coat of shellac and applied two more coats of the paint.

This paint is so easy to apply, and even easier to distress! I took a 220-grit sandpaper block to the edges and details to give it a subtle, naturally distressed look.

A top coat of polyurethane, new knobs picked by the mom-to-be, and this dresser is ready for some tiny pink clothes!

  1. Hi! Love this so much. I am also about to paint a dresser using Cobblestone. Any recommendations for prep when working with a piece that has veneer? It’s SO shiny I’m thinking I should give it a good sanding before I do anything at all!

    1. Hi Kirsten,

I’m so glad you like this piece, and that’s a great question! I always recommend starting by reading/watching our tutorial on surface preparation. Since very shiny surfaces tend to be non-porous, it is a good idea to give them a light sanding to add a bit of texture to the finish so the paint has something to grip onto.

      Happy painting!
