Learn how you can beautify your old bookshelf just like Heidi from Lily Field Furniture did with this piece in Vanilla Frosting and Tough Coat!

Hello Readers! I’m here to show you an easy bookshelf makeover today. A client found this piece at a garage sale and wanted me to update it in a creamy white.

Chalk-based paint is a great solution for pieces like this that have pressboard/fake wood backs. The paint adheres so much better than traditional paint with zero to minimal preperation!

After lightly sanding down the bookshelf with 220 grit sandpaper I applied one coat of Vanilla Frosting paint. We decided not to distress and so once the paint was dry I topped it with 2 coats of Tough Coat for protection.

Hello! My name is Heidi and I am the face behind Lily Field Furniture. I spend my days being a wife and mom and my late nights in the garage painting away! I absolutely love the job that I have and have so much fun with the process of thrifting and then refinishing furniture in a creative way. It’s so rewarding to see the amazing transformation that just a little paint can make!
