Option 1) No sealant

If you like a very matte finish and your piece will not undergo heavy wear and tear, you can skip this step entirely and choose not to seal it at all!

Option 2) Waxing

To give your furniture a more professional looking finish, we love the look and feel of wax! Our Natural Wax will help you achieve a fine furniture finish which is perfect for everyday items that won’t get too much wear and tear.

Wax is applied with a wax brush or a lint-free rag, then buffed until it’s smooth and no longer tacky.

Option 3) Tough Coat

Tough Coat is our go-to product for any furniture that will get a lot of heavy usage, such as table tops and kitchen cabinets. It is extremely durable and as you can see in these pictures, dries to a beautiful satin sheen.

Tough Coat is applied with a foam brush in long, smooth strokes.

  1. My next project will be my kitchen cupboards– I was wondering if I would need a varnish to seal them but now I know I can use tough coat!

  2. I have completed three projects now. It’s so exciting. I am now going to paint the last piece of furniture in my living room, an ornamental fireplace mantle. A bigger project than I have done before, but I have discovered a polyurethane gives you a soft finish without too much work so that’s what I will use as a finishing coat. it’s all SO EXCITING 🙂

  3. My next project is a small end table. I am still learning about Country Chic Paint and products. Thanks for all the tutorials !!

    1. Hi Elizabeth,

I’m thrilled to announce that you’re our lucky winner! Please contact me at sarah@countrychicpaint.com to claim your prize. I’ll need to know your shipping address, phone number, and color choices for your pint of paint and your jar of wax.

      Have a wonderful day!

  4. I will be working on two little tables I picked up at a garage sale or maybe the small desk I have been putting off.

  5. My next project will be a wooden chair to use at my sewing machine, complete with a comfy cushion! Have just finished my first project which is a small table / magazine rack.

  6. I’ll be using “midnight sky ” country chic paint for a picture/window frame project. I have used the natural wax on small projects for a while but it’s good to know about the tough coat!! I’ll be picking that up next ! 🙂 I love the country chic products and can’t wait to use them !

  7. I’m just completing a night table for my son. I’m using Tough Coat on the top and drawer, but wax for the rest. Love both products…just had to go back to my stockist to get a larger sized Tough Coat!

  8. Your videos are always so helpful for deciding how and what product to choose for each of my projects. Thank you!
