Sweet & Simple

Looking for a quick project to use your sample jar for? Find out how Marnia from Marnia’s Measures & Treasures used Vanilla Frosting to transform old, tattered books into beautiful decor items!

I thought it would be fun to show what else you can paint other than furniture. I’m a big reader and love books so when I found these books in a thrift store, glued together, wrapped in ratty old ribbon and spray painted gold, I knew I could “save” them! (I forgot to take a before picture)

First I took off the tattered ribbon and wiped the stack of books with a damp cloth as they were pretty dusty. Then I gave them a couple coats of Vanilla Frosting. While the paint was still wet I added decorative paper for the faux binding. I then simply let it dry and sanded the paper to give it a soft, worn look.

The books are now a great prop piece! I hope you enjoy and now have another great idea what to use your Free 4oz you picked up in July.

I am a Momma of 4, ranging from 8 months old to 22 years and a grandma to a beautiful granddaughter who is also 8 months. I am #2 in the line up of 4 girls who are my best friends! Raised by a Mom and Dad who encouraged creativity and let us paint our own rooms and furniture as we pleased. I believe having a hobby is a necessity for happiness…well, that and having a hubby that encourages my addiction to thrift! I love to teach and see ones glow after learning/accomplishing something new.
