Are you looking to achieve a simple, sophisticated look in your home? Come read all about how Cait from Little City Farmhouse transformed this desk with Liquorice, Tough Coat, and Antiquing Wax!

Hello readers!

I don’t often paint furniture black, but when I do I wonder why I don’t do it more often! The transformation of this desk in Liquorice is simple, yet stunning!

I chose to sand and stain the top of the desk in a dark walnut for some contrast with the black bottom. I gave it two coats of Tough Coat for a good hard finish. If you are looking for a topcoat for a piece that gets a lot of use, Tough Coat is it! The finish is rock hard and extremely durable!

I painted the rest of the desk in two coats of Liquorice. When it was dry I sanded and distressed it to give it some age and bring out the character of the legs.

I waxed the legs with Antiquing Wax. I love using Antiquing Wax on dark colours like this. It gives the paint colour extra depth. The dark colour and contrast give this piece such a stately and handsome look!

Cait {Little City Farmhouse}

Hello! I’m Cait! I am a wife and a mom of two little ones, and a proud auntie of a growing little flock! I first started by refinishing several pieces in my own home, and fell in love with it. Slowly it turned into a business and something I could do from home. I love the thrill of finding old furniture, and I adore the process of refinishing it into something new and fresh. Refinishing furniture is the heart of my business. I believe your home should reflect who you are, and I love helping people get the look they want in their homes by refinishing their furniture for them.
