Vintage Ford Sign

Come read more about how Cait from Little City Farmhouse created this vintage-style Ford sign with Vanilla Frosting, Devotion, and Sea Storm!

Hello readers!

I’m back with a really fun project I painted for my hubby! My hubby’s office at work has been undecorated for…well, always. A while ago he mentioned he wanted to decorate his office – gasp! Then one day he found a sign online he liked and said he wanted to make it – and when he came in with it constructed I quickly took over because I’m not the best at sharing paint!

I stained the wood first, and when it was dry I taped off a border where I didn’t want to paint. I quickly painted one coat of Vanilla Frosting without concern of coverage or getting right to the edge. This adds to the vintage feel of the sign.

When that was dry I painted the words on with Devotion and Sea Storm, building up the coats until I was happy with the coverage (red generally takes multiple coats, especially if you’re painting over a light colour).

When it was thoroughly dry, I sanded the entire piece, giving it a heavily distressed and worn finish. I then waxed it with Antique Wax – while the wax was still “wet”, I went back over it with Natural Wax – essentially erasing parts that I didn’t want as dark. This is a great trick if you ever feel like you’ve applied to much dark wax!

It now hangs in his office and he loves it!

Cait {Little City Farmhouse}

Hello! I’m Cait! I am a wife and a mom of two little ones, and a proud auntie of a growing little flock! I first started by refinishing several pieces in my own home, and fell in love with it. Slowly it turned into a business and something I could do from home. I love the thrill of finding old furniture, and I adore the process of refinishing it into something new and fresh. Refinishing furniture is the heart of my business. I believe your home should reflect who you are, and I love helping people get the look they want in their homes by refinishing their furniture for them.
