Julie from Salvage Sisters & Co. gave this dresser a beautiful new shabby chic look with Pocket Watch metallic cream, Fresh Mustard and our limited edition color, Ocean Breeze. Check it out!

Happy Fall! One of my favorite finishes on furniture is two colors layered. This dresser was the perfect piece to do this technique with its scalloped bottom, curvy legs, and ornate details.

I wanted this to be a rougher finish so I started with my first color Country Chic Paint in Fresh Mustard. I applied the paint in an x pattern leaving it patterned and showing brush strokes. This is a little more time consuming but the end result is worth it leaving a little more of a gritty texture. My lovely assistant Millie loves this technique as well!

I really wanted a lot of depth on this piece so I picked a contrasting color for my second coat, Country Chic Paint in Ocean Breeze. Using the x technique again I layered this tranquil light blue over the rich mustard. Here’s where you might start to panic and think that you ruined your piece… KEEP GOING!

While the blue is still a little damp I started using a damp cloth to rub off the edges and over the details of the furniture to show more of a worn look exposing more mustard. Continue rotating your cloth because if it’s too saturated with paint it won’t remove anymore.

I used Metallic Cream in Pocket Watch to revitalize the hardware.

I finished-up with a clear coat of wax and here’s my new favorite!

Stacy & Julie {Salvage Sisters & Co}

We are two sisters living in Nebraska and Colorado pursuing our dream of having a business together – painting, repurposing and salvaging furniture and decor. In 2014 after a few years in the south, Stacy moved back to Nebraska. With our distance apart being less excruciating we decided to jump on the opportunity to follow our passion for crafting and start doing festivals and shows. Thanks to all of our friends in the community our tent was bare by the end of each weekend! We quickly learned our dreams were becoming a reality and we needed a way to be more in touch on a daily basis and so, our online store was born.

As we continue to grow we strive for our business to embody all of the things that we hold nearest to our heart- family, community and home. The Salvage Sisters are all about spending time together with the people we love and there’s no better place to do that than home. We are inspired by comfortable, lived-in homes that are filled with a perfect balance of both old and new. We hope that our passion shines from the warmth of our hearts into your home.
