Stephanie from Crafting in the Rain took a dining set from mismatched to shabby chic with a little help from Rocky Mountain, Elegance, and Tough Coat!

Today I’m showing you my friend’s chairs that I made all pretty for her! She has 5 chairs, in two different styles, and she wanted to make them match more. The best way to do this is to paint them the same color and then they look much more like a set.

We both agreed that doing some distressing on the chairs would be a good idea, since they’d be getting a lot of heavy use. That way, if one gets scratched a little, it will blend right in with the look.

Country Chic Paint supplies:

  • Elegance
  • Rocky Mountain
  • Tough Coat
  • Paint brush
  • Foam Brush

Since some of the chairs were a lighter color, I painted dark gray (Rocky Mountain) in some places so it would have the same dark look as the other chairs when distressed.

So the lighter chairs got some Rocky Mountain, then all the chairs got two coats of Elegance. When the Elegance had dried, I took a damp cloth and started rubbing away where I wanted the dark chair (or dark paint) to show through.

Then, to give them a durable finish, I brushed one layer of Tough Coat over the chairs. Later I’ll show you her dining table that I also painted. It was done in Rocky Mountain and looks fabulous with the chairs!

I’d love to know – with a mismatched set of chairs, would you rather paint them all the same color, or embrace the eclectic and paint them all different colors?
