With this makeover idea by Lisa from Recreated Designs, you’ll be ready to host your next dinner party! She used Chocolate Tart, Smoky Quartz glaze, and Belt Buckle metallic cream to create this Parisian-style serving tray from a dumpster-bound item!
What better way to celebrate the New Year than with a beautiful new tray to hold your bubbly drinks or yummy treats?
This wood tray had certainly seen better days when I found it. Underneath all of it’s flaws it was a pretty shape though and the wood was in great condition. It needed some serious cleaning, gluing and hardware but once all of those little jobs were done it was time to crack out the paint!
To give the tray it’s fresh start, it got two coats of Furniture and Home Decor paint in Chocolate Tart.
It also got a layer of Smoky Quartz glaze that was applied after the paint. The glaze was added some dimension to the surface and gave it the look of wood grain.
Once the tray’s surface was painted and glazed, it was time to glam it up.
Country Chic Metallic Cream can be used in so many ways and the Belt Buckle colour really gave this tray the glamorous look it deserved.
Using Belt Buckle Metallic Cream and a stencil, I was able to add this beautiful graphic to the centre of the tray. The Belt Buckle also added a touch of shine and beauty to the tray edge.
The Metallic Cream is also perfect for transforming hardware. To finish off the tray, I chose these two vintage handles. Their shape was what I wanted but they were the wrong colour.
By rubbing on two coats of the Belt Buckle they were subtly changed to match the rest of the tray.
This tray was completely transformed and now that it has been glammed up it is ready to help celebrate the beginning of a wonderful New Year.

Now that is just stunning! I love the colours you chose, and the stencil really makes it. Adding the hardware makes it so practical, too! Beautiful.
Thank you so much for stopping by Maia. I’m glad you enjoyed this project!
Thanks so much Maia Lynn! This was a fun project and I was so excited to be able to reuse an old tray 😉
