Buffet Makeover In Midnight Sky

Carrie from Thirty Eighth Street used Midnight Sky and Tough Coat to give this buffet a new, modernized look to suit her decor!

Hi Friends! I’m stopping in to give you a quick before and after on this gorgeous carved wood buffet. Aren’t the details exquisite!? It was love at first site and in almost perfect condition. The problem? I didn’t love the wood grain or the color of the stain.

There are a lot of people that wouldn’t dream of painting over a piece of nice wood furniture and there are times that I don’t as well! But, I’m a firm believer that if you don’t love a piece of furniture in its natural state, you should give yourself permission to alter it so that you can love it.

I painted the first coat in Country Chic Paint’s Midnight Sky. This paint coat was light so that the natural wood tones could peak through. Then, I mixed a little bit of Midnight Sky and a touch of Vanilla Frost to slightly lighten the color. I dry brushed this lighter color over random areas of the pieces to give it some natural highlights. Then, I wet distressed all of those yummy details and the piece was sealed with Country Chic Paint’s Tough Coat. The original wood top stayed!

I love the variations of shades and colors in this piece and those details pop even more now in this gorgeous blue hue!

Carrie {Thirty Eighth Street}

Hi! I’m Carrie from sunny Southern Arizona and blogger at Thirty Eighth Street. I live in a house full of rumble tumble boys and paint is my nail polish. I love the process of repurposing, reusing and recycling unloved furniture and turning them into show stopper pieces. I’m a firm believer that it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to decorate a home. My mission is to demonstrate this, one piece at a time!

  1. Nice! I totally agree about painting wood. I just started painting a wooden china cabinet yesterday and it’s now an aged white colour, with some gold highlights and I get a thrill every time I look at it. It’s so exciting to transform an old piece into something you love. Well done!
