Introducing…The Hobbit Hole!
Today we’d like to introduce you to our fabulous retailer, Angela Melton from The Hobbit Hole! Read on to learn a bit about her shop and why she’s passionate about her work.
The Hobbit Hole
We interviewed Angela Melton, owner of The Hobbit Hole in Sylacauga, Alabama to learn a little bit more about her store, what it’s like to be a Country Chic Paint retailer, and why she loves to paint. Read on to learn more about her story!
For 18 years, Angela was an RN until some life changes made her reconsider her true passions. After her divorce 4 years ago, she decided it was time to give her home a makeover and picked up a paint brush. To begin with she was mostly refurbishing furniture for herself and her own home, but slowly gained popularity in the online community and began selling the occasional project.
After a time, she decided that nursing wasn’t for her anymore and moved into the real estate market. She kept her love of furniture painting alive by combining it with her real estate advice and aptly named herself “The Redo Realtor”! She shared her furniture flipping tips alongside realty-related topics on her Facebook page and over time as her DIY following grew, began to realize that furniture was where her true passion lay.
In October, 2015 Angela married the love of her life, Shawn Melton. Together they’ve been flipping furniture for the past two years! Angela says “Shawn shares my love of furniture flipping and is great at the restoration process. He can take a piece that anybody else would say is destined for the dump and beyond repair, and make it like new again. He is amazing with wood working and actually builds some of our pieces from scratch.” Together they make the perfect team; Shawn taking care of the restoration and prep work and Angela beautifying each piece with paint.
Shawn and Angela took a big leap in the fall of 2016 to pursue their dreams by opening up their very own home decor store! Angela’s vision was to share her work with others and share her knowledge of refurbishing so her customers could learn to beautify their homes just as she does!
What it’s like being a CCP retailer…
Angela began selling Country Chic Paint when her shop first opened in November of 2016. She knew that in order to create beautiful, custom pieces for her customers and share her furniture painting skills with them she would need to have a paint line on hand that she loved.
She says her favorite thing about running her own shop is teaching. Interacting with her customers, sharing her advice, and helping someone take their furniture from drab to fab is what drives her business. It’s also what makes her unique. Visiting The Hobbit Hole is more than just shopping; it’s an educational experience where you can get hands-on tips directly from a pro! Nothing makes Angela happier than seeing a customer who is truly proud of something they’ve created.
Very soon, Angela is hoping to start her first workshops at The Hobbit Hole. She has a bunch of fun painting projects up her sleeve including mason jars, shabby chic crates, “wine and wood” classes, rustic sign-making workshops, and more. If you’re in the area, gather up some friends and call Angela to book a fun ladies night out!
What she’s learned…
Since The Hobbit Hole first opened, Angela has learned that being an entrepreneur is not a 9-5 job. She’s constantly brainstorming new ways to grow and improve on her business.
Angela says they chose to work with Country Chic Paint for a few reasons. She enjoys the quality of the products, wide selection of colors and finishes, and the great customer service.
Her favorite Country Chic Paint products are Furniture & Home Decor Paint and wax. She loves how easy the wax is to work with and she can’t get enough of our limited edition color, Hollow Hill! When she’s looking for a timeless, classic color, her go-to is Vanilla Frosting.
