Willow Creek Artworks
Meadow Lake, SK
We interviewed Tammy Dancy, owner of Willow Creek Artworks in Meadow Lake, SK to learn a little bit more about her store, what it’s like to be a Country Chic Paint retailer, and why she loves to DIY. Read on to learn more about her story!
Tammy is a crafter at heart and has had a well-rounded career path that brought her to where she is today. Throughout her time working in HR departments and even driving school buses, she always kept time for her hobbies. As she began to pursue her passion of creating, she started an at-home business selling on Etsy and consigning craft supplies at a shop in her town. Two years ago in 2015, Tammy decided it was time for her to expand her business and open up her own storefront to sell her beautiful wares so she could enjoy her love of DIY projects full-time.
What it’s like being a CCP retailer…
Tammy became a Country Chic Paint retailer in October of 2015, shortly after her store opened. She was inspired to bring a paint line into her shop after a customer showed interest in furniture painting. Since no one else in town carried a similar product, Tammy decided to take advantage of the opportunity to fill a niche.
Her favorite thing about being a store owner is having the opportunity to craft all day long! Her wide range of crafting interests is part of what makes her store unique. Not only do they carry antique furniture and refurbishing products but they also stock an eclectic mix of unique home decor finds and scrapbooking supplies.
Tammy loves working with our All-in-One Decor Paint and her favorite color is a deep navy blue called Peacoat. She finds that it’s very user-friendly and her customers become hooked very easily! She loves how quickly it covers and can be applied to nearly any surface imaginable.
As a Country Chic Paint retailer, Tammy feels supported and appreciated as an important member of the family, even though she is still a small retail store.
Teaching is definitely a focus of Tammy’s business. She hosts at least two workshops per week and finds her most popular class is painting pallet wood signs. When you take a class with Tammy, you’re guaranteed to leave inspired and excited with how easily you can refurbish your furniture and home decor! In a class at Willow Creek Artworks, you’ll learn all about paint application, layering, and distressing to create a beautiful, shabby chic finish. Getting customers through the “frustration” of learning and seeing the beautiful outcome is what drives her.
What she’s learned…
If you’re an entrepreneur like Tammy, her advice to you is to not let the pressure of running a business make you lose sight of why you started. Stick to what you wanted to do when you started your business!
As her business expands, Tammy is always looking into different ways to bring in new ideas or recycle old ideas to make them new again. She keeps her momentum going in order to keep her customers coming back for new, exciting inspiration!
