Aubrey from Luscious & Lively turned her old bronze lamps into stylish coastal decor with a little help from Simplicity and Driftwood All-in-One Decor Paint, and White Wax!

In high school, my favourite jeans had a low rise waist and a wide flared leg. Believe it or not, they have a lot in common with these lamps:

They both had a time when I loved them, they were stylish, and they fit so well.

Thank goodness for Country Chic products! My oil-rubbed bronze lamps just weren’t doing it for me any more. They fit my space about as well as my high school jeans fit my, well, you know.

I wanted lighter, and brighter, and a little more coastal.
The dated shades were removed completely. I had an extra set of drum shades in a rustic burlap. The shape and fabric texture was great, but not the colour. The wonderful thing is, Country Chic All-in-One Decor Paint is extremely versatile, and works even on fabric.

I thinned out All-in-One Decor Paint in the shade Simplicity with a 1 part paint, 2 parts water ratio. I then whitewashed my lampshades with 2 coats.

Next I worked on the bases of the lampshades. I scuffed them up lightly with a quick sanding for extra adhesion. Then I used the All-in-One Decor Paint in Driftwood as my base colour. I was amazed at how well this paint adheres to metal! I also love the Driftwood shade, the perfect “griege” for my beachy space.

To add some depth and to give a slight whitewashed or limed appearance to the paint, I followed up with Country Chic Paint’s White Furniture Wax. Two light coats of wax and a quick buffing later, my lamps were gorgeous!

A few quick tips from Luscious and Lively for your next lamp makeover:

  • Although Country Chic All-in-One Decor Paint has amazing adhesion, do a scratch test after letting a test patch dry for 24 hours. This way you will know if your piece needs a primer after all. I didn’t need one on my piece!
  • Let your paint dry for a couple of days on smooth surfaces, such as metal or glass, before waxing. This helps to make sure the paint has cured and really adhered to your project.
  • For a more rustic appearance, apply your base paint in multiple directions and with intentional brush strokes. This allows for more areas for the wax to collect and really pop! This effect isn’t for all project styles, so play around and see what you like!
