Recap of The First Ever Country Chic Paint Retailer Retreat

For years, we have been asked if we could organize a conference so our retailers from across North America could have a chance to meet each other, form relationships, and paint. After hearing this question over and over again, we made it our goal late last year to put together our very first Retailer Retreat. We planned the event for the upcoming spring, and we hoped it would bring our Country Chic Paint family closer.
After months of planning and preparation, on Friday, March 31 2017, we welcomed a group of approximately sixty of our retail partners in Victoria, British Columbia, for a weekend full of learning, networking and team-building entertainment. We spent the weekend learning from talented speakers, discussing new products and ideas, and experimenting in workshops. Country Chic Paint has grown tremendously over the years, and we’re thrilled to be able to share our excitement and knowledge with our valued retail partners to help them succeed as well.
Over the conference weekend, we had the pleasure of spending our time with a fabulous and talented group of women — and a few gentlemen! It was such an inspiring occasion to watch everyone build relationships and share their knowledge freely. We were so happy to see like-minded businesspeople encouraging one another and building each other up.
The Retailer Retreat kicked-off with a lively evening of mingling, champagne, and ice-breaking activities. The weekend continued on with a compilation of thorough workshops that were fun and informative, as we know that product training is an essential aspect to any great conference. We painted together using various techniques (from beginner level to expert), and were able to experiment with our newly launched products as well.
Additionally, we listened to a group of carefully selected speakers share their expertise on business topics like social media management, retail sales, inventory control, and how to balance work and life.
Our retailers undoubtedly have a love for painting furniture, however as in any business, a diverse set of skills are needed to succeed as a business owner. We wanted to inspire our retailers to develop their painting skills, but most importantly, to develop their business skills as it is an imperative part of their success.
After the conference weekend, I found myself joyously reflecting on the event and the growth of Country Chic Paint. When my husband, Jan and I started this company just 3.5 years ago, we were determined to create an environmentally-friendly, high quality, and beautifully designed furniture paint line. We also wanted to inspire people to be creative.
Being supporters of ‘small business’ we knew that we didn’t want to sell to the big box retailers; we would much rather work with small-scale, independent store owners. We wanted to have a positive impact on their business and create long-lasting partnerships with them. Now, we are thrilled that Country Chic Paint can be found at over 350 independent retail locations across Canada and the United States!
The positive feedback we’ve heard after the conference has left me buzzing with appreciation and new visions for our retailer family! It’s so encouraging when we hear retailers tell us how Country Chic Paint has made a difference in their business and life.

One retailer in particular sticks out in my mind; she explained that she doesn’t view her business as a home decor store that sells paint, but instead as a Country Chic Paint store that sells home decor. Knowing that other business owners (often female) can create successes based on the products we’ve created, is incredibly exciting and motivating.
My favorite part of the entire event was being able to meet our retailers face-to-face. Seeing everyone leave the Retailer Retreat feeling inspired and full of new ideas was exactly what we worked so hard for. The attendees also left the Retailer Retreat with new connections and we hope that these new relationships will continue to strengthen over time. We truly are a team, and together we can achieve so much more than if we were alone.
