Cheryl from Shab-2-Fab refurbished this 80 year old vintage beauty with Wanderess for a beautiful, shabby chic look.
I had ordered a rub on transfer from Iron Orchid Design and was looking for the perfect piece to use it on when I came across this darling antique sheet music cabinet.
At nearly 80 years old I was surprised to see that this piece showed very little sign of wear and tear and still had its original hardware. This piece was super shiny so I went over it with a 220 grit sand paper to remove the shine and gave it a quick wipe down. Once it was prepped and ready for paint I got started. I painted this piece in 2 coats of Wanderess and let it dry over night. The next day I applied the transfer, holding it in place with a few pieces of painters tape I simply rubbed the transfer on and then very carefully peeled the backing off while marking sure the transfer stayed in place.
Once the transfer was placed I sanded the entire piece with a 220 grit sandpaper and then again with a 400 grit sandpaper until I had the distress I desired. I then painted the hardware with rustoleum oil-rubbed bronze and finished the entire piece with Country Chic Natural Wax.
I love the way Wanderess and the original stained wood underneath compliment each other, this piece turned out really beautiful and was so easily upcycled using Country Chic Paints amazing products.
I am a small town gal with a passion for refinishing furniture. I live and work out of my home in Cedar City Utah and I am the mother of two little ones. I have always been a creative person and find tremendous joy in giving old furniture new life. Painting furniture has always felt natural to me and I feel an abundance of pride and joy when I have upcycled and saved a piece of history that might have been forgotten.
