Putting Brush Soap to the Test!

Cait from Little City Farmhouse put our Brush Soap to the ultimate test on a brush full of old, dried paint. Come and read her review to see how it worked!

One of my first recommendations to anybody that wants to paint their furniture is to invest in a good paint brush. A quality paint brush will last you for years, especially if you take care of it! I always give my paint brushes a good cleaning after every use, so when Country Chic asked me to try their new brush soap on an old dried up unusable brush I decided to put it to the ultimate test. I dipped one of my favourite paint brushes in a can of paint and then let it dry for a week on my paint table. It was hard as a rock.

I gave it a good rinse in hot water, added brush soap, and worked the bristles in a circular motion in the palm of my hand. The hard paint softened almost instantly! I kept rinsing and soaping my brush – in total I used less than 2 tablespoons of soap.

In about five minutes my brush looked as good as new! I have used several different brush soaps on the market and this is by far my favourite. It cleans and conditions your brush but leaves no residue. The light scent of the peppermint essential oil in the soap is lovely!

Hello! I’m Cait! I am a wife and a mom of two little ones, and a proud auntie of a growing little flock! I first started by refinishing several pieces in my own home, and fell in love with it. Slowly it turned into a business and something I could do from home. I love the thrill of finding old furniture, and I adore the process of refinishing it into something new and fresh. Refinishing furniture is the heart of my business. I believe your home should reflect who you are, and I love helping people get the look they want in their homes by refinishing their furniture for them.

  1. Who knew that you could revive a brush that had old dried-up paint in it? I never woulda thunk it. Thanks for doing this experiment! Without your post I would never even think of buying brush soap as I take pretty good care of my brushes, but this sounds like a useful product to keep them in prime condition. I have to agree – there’s nothing like a really good paint brush when you’re a devoted painter! And I love my painted furniture projects.
