Vanilla Frosting Bookshelf

Have you ever struggled to choose a paint color for your furniture? Kristie from Lee.Marie Antiqued Furniture has a favorite go-to color, Vanilla Frosting that she chose for this pretty bookshelf!

I feel like I am the most indecisive person ever, so choosing a colour for a project is always a big decision around here. This piece seemed super girly to me so the colours Vintage Cupcake or Vanilla Frosting became my dilemma. While both of these yummy colours would have looked amazing, I settled on my all time favourite when-in-doubt Vanilla Frosting (but still added some pink in the staging of course!)

I changed out the hardware from the original 80’s typical tarnished heavy pulls, to these dainty antique style crackled glass knobs.

Just two coats of Vanilla Frosting, some light distressing along the edges, and wax to finish. That’s it!

I’m Kristie. I am a wife, a mama to a crazy toddler, and a part time dental assistant. But any spare time I get, I am refinishing furniture! I started a couple years ago just with random pieces around the house, and quickly became addicted. I love the challenge of it all. The hunt for a good one, piecing it all back together, and choosing a colour and look that brings it back to life. I love the quote “have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful”. Life is too short to have boring furniture

  1. Good morning … I’m painting a kitchen set and I’m finding vanilla frosting too white like simplicity,,,, I’m not happy ,, I have two coats on distressing done but no wax ,,,, I hope the wax tones it down ????? Or will clear coat or tough coat tone it down and they are quicker ??? To apply

    1. Hi Joanne,

Clear finishes like Tough Coat, Clear Coat, and Natural Wax won’t change the color, but they will add a little bit of sheen.

I would recommend trying a tinted wax or a glaze to add more warmth or depth to the finish. If you click here you can see lots of examples of different finishes over Vanilla Frosting that you might like.
