This light, airy hutch was given new life by Angie from The Painted Piano with her custom color, “Meditative”!

I think the most fun furniture makeovers are drastic ones, and this one qualifies for that! I am absolutely in love with how the old hutch went from dark and dated to farmhouse fresh.

To begin this furniture facelift, I quickly and lightly sanded the entire surface of the hutch, inside and out. I also took off the dated door pulls, filled the holes with wood filler, and sanded them smooth. I had a feeling that the tannins in the stain might seep through the paint (a common problem with antique furniture), so I sprayed the hutch with shellac just to be safe.

I requested a custom paint color from Country Chic to complete this project. They matched “Meditative” by Sherwin Williams, and the color match was perfect! Painting with Country Chic paint versus latex paint is so much easier and saves steps and time. I will never go back to painting furniture with traditional paint.

I taped off all the right areas before I started, since I was going to be using two colors. I thinned the paint enough to work in my paint sprayer and started painting! Whether you’re hand painting your furniture or using a paint sprayer, Country Chic paint goes on so smoothly and easily.

Once the outside was painted, I went back and painted the inside with Vanilla Frosting for a soft white to offset the blue hutch. I love, love, love this combo together!

After the paint was dry, I used a 220-grit sanding block to sand the edges to give it a naturally distressed look. I also used a 400-grit sanding block over the entire surface to rid if of any imperfections and make it extra smooth.

Chicken wire went in where the glass came out, the dated knobs were swapped out for glass knobs, and now it looks like a different piece of furniture!
