Who doesn’t love a soft, girly pink now and again? Sarah from Honour Design mixed Vintage Cupcake with Confetti to create this pretty, muted pink, then sealed it all with Tough Coat!
I had the honour of working on one of my dear neighbor’s pieces for her daughter. I literally jumped at the opportunity to work on this vintage piece! I loved all the wear and tear and the bits of black still on it. My neighbor gave me full creative liberty to do whatever I wanted! The only request was it had to be pink!
I knew I wanted to create a custom colour and knew I would be using Country Chic Paint. I combined one part Vintage Cupcake (a light true pink) and one part Confetti (a soft dusty pink/peach). This combination created a beautiful dusty soft pink that I’m in love with!
I started the project by painting the entire piece with two coats of my custom colour. I waited a couple hours between each coat. The next day I started sanding the edges, sides, and fronts in random areas to let the existing black paint pop though. I love a slightly weathered look on a vintage piece, especially when it has so much existing character.
After the distressing, I covered the entire piece with two coats of Country Chic Paint Tough Coat. This product is magic! It creates a durable hard surface for your piece and even enriches the colour of your piece giving it just a bit more depth.
Lastly, I decided to try something new on the sides of the drawers. I taped off a couple sections on each drawer. First, I painted Country Chic Paint in Liquorice to sections, applying two coats. After letting the black colour dry for a day, I removed the tape and re-taped new section for the custom pink colour. These areas I covered with two coats of the pink as well. After waiting another day for drying I removed the tape and gave the sides of the drawers a coat of Country Chic Paint Tough Coat. I love how it created a fun surprise when you open the drawers!
I finished off the piece with two different styles of knobs from Home Sense Canada to update the hardware. I love mixing more than one style of knob as it gives the piece a bit of quirkiness!
My neighbor and her daughter were thrilled with the makeover. I honestly loved it so much I wanted to keep it! But there always another piece and always another project!
Until the next project…XOXO
