Hidden Treasures Home and Garden Decor
We interviewed Tina Antila, owner of Hidden Treasures in Cochrane, ON to learn a little bit more about her store, what it’s like to be a Country Chic Paint retailer, and why she loves to what she does. Read on to learn more about her story!
Tina has been a business owner for the past 13 years. She spent several of those years running a restaurant and eventually retired from the field, only to discover that retirement simply didn’t suit her lifestyle! Instead, she took her newly-found free time to rekindle her love of decorating and painting, from upcycling dressers into benches to wine bottle bird feeders. She had only planned on doing it part time to occupy herself, but soon found her hobby expanded into a full time business!
Tina’s shop opened up 5 days a week in May this year. Her favorite thing about running her business is the ability to create her own hours. Tina owns the business and her daughter manages the day-to-day operations while she’s out, so Tina can come and go as she pleases with no one to answer to. We don’t know anyone who wouldn’t love the liberty of that lifestyle! Her supportive husband has also become involved in the business and enjoys helping with her furniture transformations.
Tina loves nothing more than to help her customers pick out the perfect products and learn the techniques they need to complete their own DIY projects. She’s rewarded every day by meeting new people and watching their beautiful visions become a reality.
There is no other store quite like Hidden Treasures in all of Cochrane. It is a one-of-a-kind shop with one-of-a-kind home decor and upcycled furniture finds. Tina chose to carry Country Chic Paint in her shop so she could support her local Canadian economy with a Canadian brand. Her favorite product is All-in-One Decor Paint and she’s been having a blast dabbling in new techniques and trying out products. The world of chalk-based furniture painting has opened her up to a vast new array of techniques that she never would have considered before!
Her future plans…
Tina hopes to begin hosting workshops in September/October 2017. If you’d like to learn some painting tips from a DIY pro, make sure you keep in touch and book a lesson at Hidden Treasures!
