Devoted to this Vanity

Have you ever had a really tricky project that you wanted to give up on? Brandi from The Junque Market went through a lot of ups and downs with this transformation, but her “devotion” to it truly paid off!

Devotion. What a perfect name for beautiful, vibrant red color by Country Chic Paint. When I think of the word devotion, I think of love. I wonder if that is why they named it that? The fact that I chose the color Devotion to makeover a vintage vanity that I got for my daughter seemed a little ironic to me. And not the gushy, I love my daughter kind of ironic. I am talking hilariously ironic. Like, I almost threw this thing out the door into the burn pile, but I have the “devotion” to finish this piece ironic. Yes, it was that bad.

Let me tell you, I never would have envisioned that this vanity would be something I would end up wanting to give up on. It all started when I decided I wanted to strip the old paint off to start my new color on a blank canvas. What a disaster!

This thing had about 5 layers of paint on it! Sure, the stripper was working, but not to my liking or my experience. After one evening of trying to remove 20 years’ worth of paint off the top off the vanity, I literally gave up and moved on to another project.

Nonetheless, I did call in the big guns (aka my marvelous hubby) to try and finish it off. I had given up so badly, that I told him to just finish the top, I would just add another layer to the years.

After two other projects, and the persistence of my sweet child who wanted her vanity that she had been promised for a very long while now, I decided to tackle the dreaded task. Fortunately, at this point the hubby had been finished with the top for weeks already. He is the absolute best! He even repaired one of the badly chipped corners of the top of the vanity, where the veneer had been chipped off, with bondo. Yep, he is a keeper. Now, I was ready to do some work.

I painted the body of the desk and drawers with the aforementioned Devotion. My daughter chose this color for her vanity to match her Marilyn Monroe themed bedroom décor. If I do so say myself, Devotion was the perfect match for that glam vibe. The customer is always right, right?

Applying Country Chic Paint’s Furniture and Home Décor Paint is always such a dream. I am always in awe of how everything I paint with it comes out so smooth and perfect. It turned out so well after just applying the two coats of Devotion, practically transforming the surface that I started with. It made me very happy that I stuck with this project.

Sticking with the theme, I applied two coats of black chalky finish paint to the top of the vanity. Knowing that my daughter actually intends to use this as her make-up vanity, the top would need some extra protection. For this purpose, I applied two coats of Country Chic Paint’s Tough Coat. Not only would it deter any make-up mishaps, it also gave the vanity top a little glossy sheen that added to the glamorous vibe.

Country Chic Paint saved the day again, transforming this old, neglected vanity into a gorgeous piece for any glamorously themed room. Oh, and yes, my daughter loves it.
