This beautiful Bermuda blended cabinet was created by Abbey from Painted Home Goods with a mix of Bliss, Wanderess, Jitterbug, Driftwood, and Midnight Sky!

I couldn’t leave this solid oak cabinet by the dumpster. It would only take a day to give it a makeover and it could be a perfect little coffee bar.

For speed and simplicity I sprayed the inside with chalk spray paint that I had on hand. I gave it a coat of Country Chic Paint in Wanderess and then got a wild hair. Stepping waaaaaay outside my comfort zone, I grabbed 4 more Country Chic colors and a spray bottle of water and got to work.

I really can’t tell you exactly what I did or why I did it since I just played with paint as I went and had no idea what look I was really going for, but I’ll do my best to explain.

I brushed on some Midnight Sky in little bits, spraying the paint immediately with water and applying it more as a wash. I didn’t fully cover the base coat of Wanderess, rather added the Midnight Sky over some large sections. Then I did the same thing with Bliss while the Midnight Sky was still damp. The two blended together to a pretty turquoise, but I wanted some more definition of color so I added a touch more Midnight Sky and Bliss in areas and blended less. Then I added a wash of Jitterbug which softened the contrast between the previous colors without taking them over. I dry brushed a tiny bit of Driftwood and Bliss over the entire piece, focusing Bliss on the edges and details.

I let everything dry overnight before distressing with sandpaper and a wet rag (wet distressing is a gentler approach that’s perfect for blended finishes like this one). I added some new casters and new white knobs and with only one day’s worth of work this trashed cabinet is now a one-of-a-kind statement piece!

Abbey {Painted Home Goods}

As a mom to twin boys, I am always busy. Twice the fun, twice the work! My Twin Tornadoes and salvaging neglected furniture are my passions. If a twin mom in a small apartment can fix up and paint furniture, so can you! In today’s throw-away culture and tendency towards cheaply made, mass produced home goods, I seek to provide something different, something unique. Bringing new life to discarded finds is my way of contributing to the responsible thrifting counterculture that has become a growing trend. When shopping with PaintedHomeGoods you can feel good about what you buy. Enjoy!
