This beautiful teal dresser was painted by Abbey from Painted Home Goods with Hemp Oil, Jitterbug and Willow Antiquing Dust!

Finding time to work on furniture projects isn’t easy when you have twin toddlers and a newborn but this dresser was worth the effort. There wasn’t much to love about it when I️ brought it home. Layers of bad paint and out-of-place modern knobs just weren’t right for this vintage piece. Restoring vintage charm was my goal.

I️ decided to strip the top so it could be stained. This isn’t something I’ve done before but I️ read reviews of products and watched tutorials before deciding on Ready Strip. It’s free from caustic chemicals, almost entirely free from odors, and is the easiest clean up since it dries before you scrape unlike other gloppy paint strippers. I️ brushed on a very thick coat and covered with plastic wrap and left it to do its thing overnight. The next morning I️ peeled off the plastic wrap (and a bunch of paint with it) and got to scraping. I️ removed the majority of about 4-5 different colors of paint then I️ cleaned with mineral spirits. I️ let it all dry out for a couple days then sanded. Some old paint remained in the grain and there was a little damage to the top that had been covered by paint, so I️ went with a dark stain to cover the imperfections. Once the stain fully dried I️ applied a generous coat of Country Chic Paint’s Hemp Oil to hydrate the wood. Overnight it all soaked in and left a pretty sheen.

I️ cleaned the base with mineral spirits then painted two coats of Jitterbug. This color is clearly a huge favorite and it’s no secret why! The deep teal works with so many decor styles and, for me, brings feelings of cozy fall days. I️ loved the color next to the dark stain, especially with the addition of reclaimed vintage handles I️ polished with vinegar and water. For a little extra depth I️ applied Country Chic Paint’s Willow Antiquing Dust around the edges, details, and legs.

How gorgeous is this? Dressers like this make great statement pieces in living rooms as entertainment centers or in kitchens as coffee bars or serving stations for the holidays.

Abbey {Painted Home Goods}

As a mom to twin boys, I am always busy. Twice the fun, twice the work! My Twin Tornadoes and salvaging neglected furniture are my passions. If a twin mom in a small apartment can fix up and paint furniture, so can you! In today’s throw-away culture and tendency towards cheaply made, mass produced home goods, I seek to provide something different, something unique. Bringing new life to discarded finds is my way of contributing to the responsible thrifting counterculture that has become a growing trend. When shopping with PaintedHomeGoods you can feel good about what you buy. Enjoy!
