Midnight Sky Buffet {guest post}

Heidi from Lily Field Furniture is starting 2018 out right with this beautiful buffet makeover in Midnight Sky, Vanilla Frosting, and Antiquing Wax!

Happy 2018 friends! I have a gorgeous makeover to show you as we kick off the new year here at Lily Field Furniture.

This buffet was in pretty good condition minus the peeling veneer on the scrolling. I simply used a heat gun and painters tool to remove the veneer from those areas. A little bit of patching with filler and it was all ready to makeover!

To prepare the buffet I lightly sanded the entire piece and cleaned off all surfaces. Next I applied my very favorite Clear Primer. The primer allows for greater adhesion and also allows for distressing since it is clear – the best part! Now I was ready for the fun part: paint!

My client had sent me an inspiration picture and it happened to be my good friend Carrie from Thirty Eight Street’s Blue Buffet using Country Chic Paint! Easy enough!

Following Carrie’s tutorial I first added a full layer of Midnight Sky- a beautiful blue color. After that was dry I mixed a very small amount of Vanilla Frosting with the Midnight Sky and then added the lighter color to the edges and details of the buffet.

After thoroughly sanding I added top coat for protection. To add a little bit of extra dimension I used Antiquing Wax along the edges and details of the buffet.

    Wow! These are the kinds of makeovers I like to show people who think it’s sacrilege to paint over wood. This is stunning and exciting! It shows just what is possible. Nice first project of the year. I look forward to seeing more.
