How To Repair Dings and Scratches in Old Furniture - black furniture painted tiger oak dresser - country chic paint

This dresser might look nice to start with, but upon closer inspection, you’ll start to notice the wear and tear.

There are scratches on top, the varnish is peeling, and there are holes from where a mirror used to be.

To make this dresser look flawless once more, Faye needed to do a little smoothing and filling.

First off, she gave the entire dresser a good sanding with 80 grit sandpaper. This helped minimize the look of the superficial scratches on top and got rid of the peeling varnish.

Next, she used some wood filler to fill in the holes from the original mirror screws.

With a little wood glue, she repaired a crack on the dresser top. Now this beauty is ready for a fresh coat of paint!

With two coats of Liquorice All-in-One Decor Paint, Faye was able to achieve the flawlessly smooth new finish she was after.
