Robin from In Fine Feather Furniture painted her bathroom vanity with Vanilla Frosting to take it from drab to fab! Read on to learn all of her surface prep and sealing tips.

We have been updating our home over the past few months. We have a fairly small home and our ensuite bathroom is no exception. The previous owners painted both the master bedroom and bathroom in a very dark mossy/pea soup green color. The bathroom felt small, dark and dingy as there is only one window in it with privacy glass and being on the back of the home (north facing) not much natural light.

I decided to go for it and use all Country Chic Paint products to lighten up the vanity!

I started the surface prep of the vanity by removing all the hardware. Then washed everything with mild soap and warm water. I then used Country Chic Paint’s Clear Bonding Primer (2 coats) as I wasn’t too sure how their clay based All-in-One Decor Paint would adhere to the laminate and I don’t want to have to redo this project in 6 months!

Then I used Country Chic Paint Vanilla Frosting (a nice natural white). I applied 3 coats as I didn’t want any bleed through. I sanded lightly between the 2nd and 3rd to give a nice even smooth finish without brush marks. Then I let it dry for 2-3 days to ensure no moisture before sealing the paint with Country Chic Paint Tough Coat.

Tough Coat is an easy to use, water-based top coat in a satin finish. I applied it using a foam brush. I did 2 coats in a 24 hour period. After it had dried completely I put all the hardware back on and reassembled the vanity.

Last but not least I touched up any last bits of paint on the walls and trim. I treated myself to new towels, floor mat and a few accessories as well as purged a lot of clutter and products I never use to maximize the small space and organize the two drawers and cupboard.

All said and done I love our new ensuite. It is light, bright and very relaxing. Time for a bubble bath and a glass of wine!

I am a wife and working mom that makes work life balance a top priority. When I am not at work or busy with our family I love to spend time outdoors hiking, mountain biking and beach combing. I balance my love for nature with an artistic outlet I can do indoors. This is working in my garage work space updating vintage furniture with paint, stain, glazes, waxes, oils and anything else that intrigues me.
