Cait from Little City Farmhouse painted this distressed grey hutch with Hurricane on the exterior, and Crinoline on the interior. Come read her story about this project!

China cabinets, hutches, whatever you want to call them – I love refinishing them! They make such a huge impact painted!

A client of mine sent me this photo and asked if I could update her cabinet for her:

It has such great bones, I love the shape and style of it. After painting up some samples for her, she ultimately decided on Hurricane for the exterior and Crinoline for the interior.

I cleaned, prepped, filled and fixed dings and dents, sanded, cleaned again, and then got painting!

I painted the exterior, and when it was fully dry I masked it off and painted the interior. A two toned finish like this can be a little tedious, but the key is to make sure each colour is fully dry before taping off and moving on to the next. I usually have a few touch up spots, and for those, I love using Country Chic Paint’s Artist Brushes. They are perfect for small touch ups.

I sanded the entire piece lightly with 220 grit to smooth it out and distress the edges. I sealed the entire piece with several coats of satin poly.

Cait {Little City Farmhouse}

Hello! I’m Cait! I am a wife and a mom of two little ones, and a proud auntie of a growing little flock! I first started by refinishing several pieces in my own home, and fell in love with it. Slowly it turned into a business and something I could do from home. I love the thrill of finding old furniture, and I adore the process of refinishing it into something new and fresh. Refinishing furniture is the heart of my business. I believe your home should reflect who you are, and I love helping people get the look they want in their homes by refinishing their furniture for them.
