Abbey from Painted Home Goods used two of our Lustrum Collection colors, Piece of Cake and Darling to create a subtly blended paint finish on this dresser. Keep reading to learn all about this look she created!

While I knew this dresser was going to take extra prep work when I picked it up, I wasn’t planning on how much work it actually took! Due to a mishap involving my phone and a lake I don’t have a true before picture.

The old paint job was horrendous, all gunk and drips and globs. No problem, I thought. I’ll just strip and sand it smooth and get to painting!

Long story short, the top needed to be replaced. Easy enough. The paint was coming off the drawers in rubbery, stretchy pieces. After getting as much as I could off, I scrubbed it down with mineral spirits and let it dry.

Days of sanding later I had a smooth, mostly paint-free surface. After priming with Country Chic Paint’s Clear Bonding Primer, I was finally ready to paint.

I wanted a subtly blended look with lots of depth so I started with two coats of the new Country Chic Paint Lustrum color, Piece of Cake. Next I highlighted with the color Darling by blending the paints while wet. This is harder to do in the summer sun and heat, but working in small sections and keeping everything slightly damp with the spray bottle helped.

I added some Slate Glaze to the edges and details for a bit more dimension. This dresser was certainly not a piece of cake to work on, but it was so worth the effort

As a mom to twin boys, I am always busy. Twice the fun, twice the work! My Twin Tornadoes and salvaging neglected furniture are my passions. If a twin mom in a small apartment can fix up and paint furniture, so can you! In today’s throw-away culture and tendency towards cheaply made, mass produced home goods, I seek to provide something different, something unique. Bringing new life to discarded finds is my way of contributing to the responsible thrifting counterculture. When shopping with PaintedHomeGoods you can feel good about what you buy. Enjoy!
