Cait from Little City Farmhouse chose to makeover this upcycled headboard with All-in-One Decor Paint in the color, Driftwood and Smoky Quartz Furniture Glaze to create a weathered, coastal look.

There are a few custom pieces that come in and out of my shop that I love so much I want to keep them! This is one of them!
A client of mine had an antique cabinet sitting in her basement that she took apart and repurposed into a beautiful king size headboard!

Stunning right? It was so unbelievably heavy that it was almost impossible to move! My client wanted a really worn, driftwood look and she sent inspiration photos she had found on Pinterest.  I sent her home with a few paint samples to match with other pieces in her space, and she ultimately settled on the base coat in the color, Driftwood. After sanding and sealing the entire piece with Shellac (to control potential bleed-through), I gave the headboard two coats of Driftwood.

When it was fully dry, I gave it a coat of poly. Poly helps to give the Furniture Glaze laze (which is the next step!) an easier application and helps prevent any accidental wet distressing.
I used Smoky Quartz glaze to give this piece a really weathered driftwood look.  I started out by applying the glaze and wiping back (the traditional glazing method) but I wasn’t liking the result.  It wasn’t quite the look we were going for.  Instead, I brushed the glaze on using a pretty dry brush.  When it was dry, I gave it a light sanding to even it all out and further distress it.

Driftwood and Smoky Quartz glaze are a perfect combination! The result was a natural driftwood look!
I top coated the entire piece in a matte poly for protection.

I couldn’t drag this huge piece in to take pictures of it in my normal staging spot because it was so heavy, so I propped it up in front of my little shop! I love how this piece turned out.  If you’d like to try Driftwood and Smoky Quartz glaze (or any other products in the Country Chic Paint lineup!), make sure you use code FARM10 at the checkout for 10% off!

Hello! I’m Cait! I am a wife and a mom of two little ones, and a proud auntie of a growing little flock! I first started by refinishing several pieces in my own home, and fell in love with it. Slowly it turned into a business and something I could do from home. I love the thrill of finding old furniture, and I adore the process of refinishing it into something new and fresh. Refinishing furniture is the heart of my business. I believe your home should reflect who you are, and I love helping people get the look they want in their homes by refinishing their furniture for them.
