Add a Pop of Color to your Decor with this Lemon Yellow Secretary Desk

Megan from Lubbly Jubbly Furniture gave a secretary desk a bold new look in the color “Luminous” to add a pop of color to her grey and white bedroom decor. Come read about how she prepped and painted the furniture surface!

Hey everyone!
I never seem to have the time to paint my own pieces, but this time I needed to, because I don’t have an office and I have paperwork overflowing my counter and no laptop spot. I saw this little secretary desk and thought it looked perfect for my office needs.

Since my bedroom is grey and white with a touch of yellow here and there,  I chose the color, Luminous to make those yellow accents pop.
I scuff sanded the piece down so the gloss was removed, then cleaned it with vinegar and lemon.  I knew I wanted to keep the inside wood as it was, so I wiped it down as well.
Next, I primed the whole piece with two coats of a white primer, leaving 4 hours in between each coat.

I then painted three coats of Country Chic paint in the color, Luminous.

Once the paint was dry, I applied two coats of Clear Coat with my sprayer.  For the inside, I used a furniture salve to renew the wood, but you can use  wax or furniture polish instead.

I ended up using new hardware called letter pulls because the old ones weren’t nice and I wanted this piece to have an office look about it.

I can’t wait to get this piece in my bedroom.

Hi there, I’m Megan from Lubbly Jubbly Furniture. I grew up in the UK and came to Canada when I was 17.  I am a Mother of 4 and married to my amazing husband – this business of mine wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for him. I started painting furniture almost four years ago as a hobby grew to a real business in March of 2018. I love to restore furniture and just starting painting canvases as well. I’m really enjoying what I do and I continue to work harder and have fun while doing it!
